The most complex creatures on the planet

Humans are said to be the most complex creatures on the planet. We are said to have a about 1000 trillion brain cells. I'd say that's a lot! Yet...I would dare say we are the most forgetful people on the planet. Sometimes, I think my dog has a better memory than most people. It takes her one time of trying something new whether that be food, meeting a new person, or going to a place to know where she stands and the next time she so much as smells it, she either runs to it or stays away. If I were more like her. I can hardly believe that a mere two days ago I was in the peaceful smokey mountains with my Bible, Journal, sister, and Savior. I soaked up the solitude like fresh water on a 100 degree day, which we can all relate to these days, whew..it is so toasty outside! Anyhow, the moment I returned home..I felt the calls of my missed tv shows, email, facebook, texting, and distractions..all the things I so desperately ran away from in the first place. It's like an addiction, once I indulge for just a minute...I can't seem to pry myself away from it to take a walk, or read the Word. I realized tonight one of the reasons why: I am forgetful. All humans are, we shouldn't be surprised because God tells us that over and over in the Bible [Side fact: The word remember is mentioned 233 times in the bible and the command "Do not forget" 15 times] but I have to say, I am an exceptionally forgetful person, anyone who is close to me can tell you that. I lose my keys, clothes, phone, etc. constantly. I am constantly looking for what I last had..and I literally can give someone Godly counsel one day and the same thing happen to me the next, and I forget what I said. The remedy: Making a point to remember. I believe our mind is a tool..we are to direct it and use it properly. You have to force your mind to go back to certain things..dwell on them..stay with the thought or else your mind will file the memory somewhere in those 1000 trillion cells only to be distracted with what you've spent MOST of your life doing. It takes approximately 30 days to form or break a habit. Think about things you do every single day without fail. I'll be transparent and name some of mine: I sleep, I eat, I check my phone, I talk to my family and dog, I check my e-mail facebook twitter and blog lets just say more than once, I brush my teeth, I watch some sort of tv or movie. So everyday for years and year I have done these things...plus or minus work, school, and church. That's a lot of time spent. My point is even when God does a new work in your heart, it's easy to go back to habits..after all that's why they are called habits. You must decide what is important and what is not and how to do things in moderation. Life is not meant to be lived as a retreat or else we wouldn't need one BUT I believe God calls us to an abundant life that is much more than most of us know how to walk in. Therefore, I propose to you, my fellow bloggers, get rid of some unneeded habits and add some new ones. Do it gradually so that you don't become overwhelmed or live in legalism...but change MUST come. You will either allow the changes from the inside to shape the outside or you will bury them in the files...lost in your 1000 trillion brain cells..

"My child, never forget the things I have taught you.
Store my commands in your heart.-Proverbs 3:1 NLT"

Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.-Deuteronomy 4:9 NASB
