Second Blog Post of the Day :)

As I was sitting on the computer..my sister was playing Josh Bales. One of his songs is called "No Good At Goodbye." It is a simple song that literally everyone could relate to. The message is right there in the title. I've listened to it a fair share of times but something struck me when I heard it play today. A sense of sadness came over me and true empathy. I understand exactly what the writer is saying. In my twenty two years of living I have never heard anyone say: "I Love Goodbyes!!" I'm sure you haven't either. So what's the deal? God struck me with a thought: We were never meant to say goodbye. Think about our original purpose..we are created to be eternal. The truest part of who we are (our spirits) are eternal. We weren't designed to experience loss, death, or loneliness. It's an ache that no matter how many times it happens, and it will happen in this life, we never get used to it. I have lost two grandparents and recently, just over Christmas Break lost a dear friend from College. I think about all the goodbyes I am about to experience. I will say goodbye to my parents, my best friend and dear sister, and my Church family to go away for another year. I'm going into my senior year and you'd think it gets easier..it never does. A few weekends ago, I watched as a Mother of one son said goodbye to him on his wedding day knowing that he would never again live under her roof. Don't get my wrong, I know that we must sometimes leave things to move onto new things but this whole sense of goodbye brings with it the realization that "Goodbyes just aren't meant to be." Even Jesus being perfectly God but also perfectly human experienced this. He wept bitterly at the thought of being separated from his Father on the cross..and the alternate decision of saying Goodbye to US forever if He didn't do the task before him. He didn't tell his disciples on the day of his ascension "Well, it's been good guys but peace out, I'm going to heaven now!!!" He said he was always with us, He said he went to prepare a place so where he was we could be too! I don't believe we have to wait until we pass from earth to heaven to be with him where He is. As far as earthly goodbyes...we must remember God redeems ALL things...he has reversed the effects of death and sin and in him there are no goodbyes. We are eternal.
